Wanting to relocate from the city for a more tranquil lifestyle led to Stephen Charlton and his family finding their perfect new home at The Hollies in Forton.
Having spent the past six years in their 1930s semi-detached in Lancaster, Stephen (34) and his wife began the hunt for a new-build home rather than continuing to spend money on the upkeep of their ageing property.
As soon as the couple laid eyes on the three-bedroom Haybarn at The Hollies, they knew they had found their new home.
Stephen explains: “I was keen for a new-build property ready just to move into and really wanted something with character. The Haybarn ticked both boxes; it is a really modern home but has the looks and homely feel of a traditional property.
“The design is so unique and unlike any other new build home we saw. It is the perfect style to fit in with the rural location and we like how all the homes look different to each other.”
The couple also had an eye on the long term future and were keen to find a property that would suit their growing family for years to come.
“It was important we found a home that would be comfortable for us for many years” explains Stephen. “It is a step up for us in every way. Every room is bigger than what we previously had, there is plenty of space for our eight-year-old daughter and the home is large enough should we extend the family.”
Now happily settled into the new home, the family is enjoying making the most of the countryside setting.
Stephen said: “Just minutes from our front door and we are in the open countryside. It’s a great area to enjoy walking the dog and there are canal walks and the Trough of Bowland on the doorstep. Hearing the owls hooting at night reminds us how close we are to nature.”
The Hollies also suits the couple’s careers. “I work in Preston so quick access to the motorway is great” explains Stephen. “My wife works in Lancaster so we are handily situated between the two cities.”
Stephen’s family was the first to move into The Hollies and are looking forward to the community growing.
“There is a large open green space at the heart of the development which will be a great place for socialising with our new neighbours and for children to make new friends.
“Kingswood has made us feel really at home and put a large Christmas tree up even though we were the only residents and the site was closed for the holidays. That was a really nice touch and my daughter loved seeing the tree lit up.”
